OBMI’s Ranim Orouk Featured as Trailblazer for Sustainability in UAE with Friday Magazine
Women Architects Answer UAE’s Call for Sustainability

OBMI Senior Design Coordinator Ranim Orouk, was featured in Friday Magazine as one of three women in the architecture industry who are designing sustainably – contributing to the UAE’s desire to be more environmentally friendly.
All three women have designed eco-friendly design solutions with elements that reflect the culture and heritage of the country. Each interviewee explains their inspiration for the design, tie back to the area, and how they used sustainable materials.
Ranim, who is also an artist, designed a sustainable sculpture installation called “Glow.” The jellyfish light fixture was created using eco-friendly digital fabrication methods such as 3D printing and laser cutting and won her the Van Cleef prize in 2017.
“Sustainability can be practiced not only by using such products but by also incorporating eco-friendly production processes. With 3D printing, a green technology, there is the least amount of product wastage and diesel emissions.” – Ranim Orouk
As a multi-facilitated designer in OBMI’s Dubai studio, Ranim leverages her architecture and art background to create bespoke residences and distinctive hospitality destinations that balance practicality and luxury. Sharing her vision with others, she seeks to build a story through detailed visuals, communicating complex concepts and dynamic experiences through the spaces she designs. Since joining OBMI in 2020, Ranim has quickly become a valued designer within the studio and her work has contributed to the story of several regional projects set to launch in 2022 and beyond.
