New Luxury Tourism Requires Authenticity, Privacy and Well-being

OBMI Design Expert Sheds Light on the Future of Luxury Resorts

Senior Lead Designer, Giovanni Medina, spoke about the new concept of luxury tourism alongside Astrid Hoffmann, Director of EDSA; Alejandro Escudero, founder, and CEO of Urbana, during the panel discussion “New Trends in Architecture and Resort Design,” organized by Arum Talks.

As the culture shifts toward a greater emphasis on sustainable building and well-being, a new perspective has formed for luxury tourism. The panel states, “the new concept of luxury tourism is based on three essential pillars: authenticity, privacy, and well-being.” Hospitality design is often the first place we see these changes come to life.

Travelers are looking to immerse themselves in the culture of the community to which they choose to travel. OBMI has long designed projects that seamlessly blend in with the surroundings, built with the local environment in mind. Giovanni knows the art of discovery well, mentioning the six-star resort he is working on in Saudi Arabia. He says that luxury is secondary to authenticity. “The main thing is that the materials are indigenous to the region,” clarifies. Designing this way allows the region’s culture to be showcased and celebrated.
