Design Middle East Annual Forum Elevates Conversation Surrounding Legacy Projects with Panel Featuring OBMI Design Manager Drew Gilbert

The Middle East and North Africa region (MENA) is a hub for awe-inspiring structures, outstanding designs, and creativity beyond words. Leading the conversion among MENA’s design community, Design Middle East held its annual Design Forum to showcase local creativity, innovation, and partnership globally.

The Design Forum 2021 presented an opportunity to explore some exciting industry topics such as how architecture, design, and fit-out is helping combat COVID-19, do we need more legacy project like district 2020 in the region, and is gender pay gap widening in the creative field, why and what to do.

OBMI Design Manager Drew Gilbert shared his thoughts among fellow design leaders on elevating the importance of legacy projects in the Middle East! During the panel Drew highlighted the significance of legacy projects as a gift to future generations. The topic of preserving heritage and celebrating culture can be seen in OBMI’s noteworthy projects such as Fairmont Tazi Palace, St. Regis Bermuda, and the Royal Mansour Marrakech to name a few. This theme further signifies OBMI’s leading role in creating positive long-term impact in communities and meaningful connections through built forms.

During this event, Drew was also honored on the Powerlist Under 30 for his role in envisioning and creating designs that enhance the lives of the various users and stakeholders of the project. From private villas to mixed-use communities, from boutique resorts to destination hotels, his macro to micro experience has led him to become a well-balanced designer with an eye for context, culture, and climate creating sustainable and lasting solutions profoundly relevant to place and purpose. LEED Accredited, he is committed to a brighter future, advocating sustainable design strategies and cradle-to-cradle thinking for long-term impacts on the built environment.
