Defining and solving complex problems with clarity and elegance is where Doug thrives at OBMI. He begins every project by asking clients about their business goals and dreams, which ensures that his work as both designer and advisor directly addresses their needs. Doug’s background in designing and managing multinational projects for luxury brands with teams of partners, artisans, and craftsmen resulted in the magnificent Le Royal Mansour in Marrakech – a lavish resort designed to host royalty and heads of state, while showcasing and honoring Moroccan tradition.

Doug began designing retail spaces in the early 1980s before joining his uncle at William Cox Architect in Miami. He was the lead architect on the historic Vinoy Hotel renovation in St. Petersburg, Florida, a project he says profoundly affected his role as a “strategic liaison” who must successfully navigate the business interests and goals of both developers and brands. He joined OBMI in 1998. Doug’s talent, vision, and leadership have led to notable projects including The Wave in Muscat, Oman and Oil Nut Bay in the British Virgin Islands.

Doug holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Miami. He is a member of the Recreation Council for the Urban Land Institute (ULI), and the American Institute of Architects (AIA). In his spare time, Doug keeps it creative: He once designed and installed a wooden coffee bar and backsplash over a weekend, surprising returning staff that Monday. Originally from Tennessee, Doug was raised in Marathon, Florida, in the Florida Keys, where he still escapes to fish as often as he can.
