OBMI’s Aera Vertical Resort Wins Best Futuristic Project At Construction Innovation Awards

Following introducing next-gen resort concept – AERA, at Arabian & African Hotel Investment Conference, OBMI was recognized at the Construction Innovation Awards 2021 as the winner of the Best Futuristic Project for the elevated hospitality model set in an urban setting. Recognition at both events marked the impressive momentum the firm has achieved in the Middle East over the last week.

In pursuit of reimagining traditional resorts, OBMI’s innovation lab endeavored to respond to the challenges of developers and needs of consumers by creating a new model that has never been introduced to cities. By exploring the porosity for design, OBMI envisioned taking the low sprawling resort model upward with an innovative skin and skeleton to open up spaces within the traditional high-rise structure to interconnect the city, interiors, exteriors and, in doing so, form unique vantage points and experiences. Our solution is a new, distinct, vertically integrated resort experience right in a city’s urban center that reduces the building footprint, provides wellness through intimate access to nature, and provides an oasis without the need for extensive travel.

This concept will capture every resort amenity in an entirely new way and embody the same unplugged escape that one finds on a private island without leaving a city’s epicenter. Each of the seven districts, Art, Drama, Fashion, Dining, Wellness, Family, and Garden, is dedicated to serving a well-defined purpose to meet the most sophisticated traveler’s expectations while rivaling the most coveted resort experiences. Each curated experience marries relaxation, convenience, and connectedness for every guest.

The design goes beyond alluring travelers and serves as a space where locals find community, tranquility, and culture. Aera will feature multiple culinary options, whose menus are curated around fresh, organic ingredients found in the edible gardens that thrive throughout the resort.

To further introduce biophilic design and integrate plant life in an otherwise urban area, the resort will have vertical pocket gardens, a historic neighborhood with cultural meanderings lined with “sidewalk” cafes, and a glass greenhouse that erupts with vibrant greenery. The rooftop features many infinity pools, each offering a unique view of the city below and a different angle to watch the sky at sunset.

Aera truly is a world of escape that will instantly transport guests to another dimension and redefine the idea of luxury resorts for years to come. It is an honor to win the Best Futuristic Project award, and we are optimistic about our design’s capability to continue elevating our industry. The award was received by OBMI’s Dubai office with Tareq El Zayat, Islam El Mashtooly, Mariam Mohab, Muhammad Moussa, Mauro Comoli in attendance at the ceremony.
