Our clients, Monarch Capital, envisioned Grand Reserve Puerto Rico as an untouched escape where a lifestyle community would share in legacy that respects and honors heritage. Nestled between the site’s two natural reserves, the Espíritu Santo River to the west and Las Picuas to the northeast, and expansive ocean shores, the community offers true luxury in a pristine environment. OBMI was commissioned as the design firm to craft the architecture for a collection of residences and key amenity spaces, as well a master plan that would deliver an experience of rewilding and cultivating a reconnection with nature. As architects and designers who prioritize the experience between humans and the environment, OBMI envisioned a new era for Grand Reserve’s residential development to experience sophisticated island living and immersion in the natural environment.

As guests enter the development, they are immediately immersed in the vibrant tropical atmosphere designed to rewild the community and enhance a sense of place. OBMI designers were inspired to elevate the resort arrival experience and begin the guest journey with an intimate connection to nature and an incomparable spirit of adventure.  Slowly introducing impressive architectural elements that seamlessly blend into the natural environment, the arrival sequence reveals itself in moments of discovery as guests make way to front of the property. Providing direct views of the luxury amenities of Grand Reserve, and a perfectly framed vista of the vivid Rio Grande Peninsula, the entrance into the community serves as a striking first impression.

Ideally situated along the pristine white sand beach and immersed in the unforgettable ocean and mountain views, OBMI designed the residences to represent the height of exquisite island living through elegant tropical design that embodies the true essence of the Caribbean. The residential options leverage indoor-outdoor living at the grandest scale, drawing upon every opportunity to benefit from the expansive ocean and rainforest vistas. The architecture balances contemporary and grand silhouettes with local Coralina stonework and craftsmanship inspired by indigenous traditions.

By implementing expansive vertical and horizontal planes in the design, the architecture creates an illusion that the living spaces float over the ocean horizon, with the built structure blending into the natural surroundings. This effect is further experienced throughout the living spaces within the residences, which feature double-height interiors with floor-to-ceiling window wall systems. In addition, generous terraces with sweeping overhangs and spacious balconies with glass railings all draw the field of vision to the panoramic views.

Creating a refined social space, OBMI crafted Caya Beach Club as a tropical escape through the beach restaurant and lounge. The 60-seat restaurant offers an unforgettable dining experience for patrons as part of the vibrant beachside community. Using a mix of metal, wood, and stone finishes inspired by the surrounding natural habitat, OBMI crafted the architecture that allows the cool sea breezes to move through the space beneath generous overhangs. With ample room for socializing and entertaining, the centerpiece bar allows for lounge and dining areas to have unobstructed views of the oceanfront setting.
