Sustainability and Wellness in Luxury Design: Crafting Experiences for a Holistic Future
Wellness is more than spas and treatments; it’s a holistic journey made possible through thoughtful, intentional design. Our design stories are shaped by a deep sense of responsibility, weaving sustainability and wellness into the fabric of each project.
Our mission is to empower our clients to embrace sustainable practices that promote the wellbeing of their spaces and the communities they serve. These values echo through our global work, creating environments where people can continue to experience unforgettable moments for generations to come.
Below are five case studies that exemplify how destinations can optimize wellness and sustainability when designers lead the conversation of integration –

Aera Vertical Resort:
Creating an Urban Oasis Prioritizing Wellbeing
OBMI’s Innovation Lab conceptualized the Aera vertical resort to bring the groundedness of nature into an urban setting, offering city dwellers a sanctuary for wellbeing. Aera offers a wholly sensorial experience that ignites all five senses and immerses guests into an unplugged escape with walking trails, fresh air, lush greenery, and a state-of-the-art spa that encourages community and interconnectedness with shared spaces.

Rosewood Little Dix Bay:
Creating a Sense of Place
At Rosewood Little Dix Bay, OBMI helped realize dreams of an on-site sustainable farm into the resort’s reimagined master plan that would bring the freshest ingredients and unique experiences for guests, such as learning how to cook local cuisine or simply the chance to enjoy the healing powers of nature while touring the gardens. For our client, the on-site farm also presented an opportunity to remote agricultural and farming practices with a lower impact on their supply chain.

Royal Mansour Marrakech:
Holistic Sanctuaries
Sacred Geometry harnesses the universe’s mathematical principles and vibrational energies to create spaces that resonate with life’s core dynamics, fostering transformative self-healing and connection to nature. While designing the Royal Mansour Marrakech OBMI leveraged the wellness benefits of sacred geometry to enhance the guest experience. As guests explore the hospitality and cultural landmark, they will find intricate latticework, patterns, and arches. They will notice that, on a cellular and conscious level, architecture nurtures wellbeing through an environment symbolizing harmony and balance in the universe.

SouthMED:
Embracing Community
SouthMED, located on Egypt’s sought-after North Coast, is a community centered on placemaking, wellbeing, and sustainable practices. OBMI’s holistic and organic design approach to the master plan and architecture combines contemporary design while celebrating and preserving the site’s natural environment to offer guests and owners a resort-style oasis within a thriving community.
Envisioned as a coastal escape, OBMI carefully planned the positioning of SouthMED to fully enjoy 100 blocks of direct access and views to the majestic Mediterranean Sea. To support an active lifestyle community, designers created multi-lane roads and nature trails to increase accessibility for exploring, walking, and cycling. The community promotes experiences of discovery and rejuvenation by integrating opportunities for daily movement, social engagement, and immersion in nature, making the most of the pristine beaches and vibrant atmosphere. With SouthMED, OBMI redefines luxury living and tourism in a tranquil coastal setting where one can connect with the environment and each other, whether enjoying it for a weekend or a lifetime.
Caribbean Spa Destination:
Tuning Into the Elements
As we enter a new era of hospitality, where ‘Health is the New Wealth’ and a healthy lifestyle is recognized as an integral part of preventative medicine, wellness design begins to shift. At OBMI, our designers are exploring new approaches to wellness by creating unique destination spas with heart and soul that capitalize on the unique aspects of their locations and connect with the surrounding landscape. Careful positioning is key to achieving a greater connection to nature. Designers pay close attention to the landscape and plan designs to take advantage of the vistas, natural light, and seamless transitions to outdoor spaces.
Providing the space for unique experiences, like sunbathing in the forest on terraces, panoramic saunas surrounded by trees, circular walking trails, and swimming in natural water, can position spas as destinations in their own right. Total immersion in nature offers guests the sense of escapism and freedom they desire. Interior spaces will continue to have a strong biophilic feel and visual connection to natural surroundings by integrating skylights or views into internal courtyards.
