BERMUDA HOUSES

Colin Campbell has played a significant role in shaping Bermuda’s contemporary architectural landscape.

As Director of OBMI’s Bermuda studio and head of the firm’s Urban Lifestyle practice, he works closely with clients to translate ideas into thoughtful, finely crafted buildings that respond to both the character of the island and the practical needs of modern development.

Colin’s work reflects a balance of environmental awareness, cultural sensitivity, and business insight. His portfolio includes a wide range of projects across Bermuda and the Caribbean, from private residences to major civic and healthcare facilities. Notable projects include the KEMH Acute Care Hospital, the Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Center, and the West Water residence.

Many may recognize Colin from the PBS television series *This Old House: The Bermuda Project*, where he helped introduce viewers to the distinctive character and sustainability of Bermuda architecture.

Colin studied architecture at California Polytechnic State University and spent time in Tuscany exploring Italy’s historic art and architecture before beginning his professional career in California in the early 1980s. After completing a five month, 4,000 mile cycling journey across the United States, he returned to his native Bermuda in 1984 to join a local architecture firm. He later acquired the practice and led it for fifteen years before forming a partnership with OBMI and joining the firm in 1999.

A long standing contributor to Bermuda’s professional and civic community, Colin is a past president of the Institute of Bermuda Architects and has served with the Bermuda Institute of Chartered Arbiters and the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce Tourism Division.

“To be relevant, architecture should aspire to raise our collective sense of worth and provide a backdrop for our shadows to play.”

Outside the studio, Colin enjoys sailing, gardening, reading, and spending time outdoors, often drawing inspiration from Bermuda’s landscapes and traditions.
