Michele Smith

Since joining the firm in 1985, she has played a central role in shaping its work across the island, building a reputation for translating thoughtful design into spaces that are both functional and enduring. She is known for her steady leadership, as well as her ability to manage projects and shape refined, livable spaces that respond to both client vision and budget.

Michele’s work spans private residences, hospitality environments, and commercial developments, with a particular focus on projects that require both sensitivity and precision. She has led the design and delivery of numerous homes and renovations across Bermuda, bringing a deep understanding of place and an ability to balance design ambition with practical considerations. Her approach is grounded in close collaboration with clients and teams, ensuring that each project responds thoughtfully to its context.

Appointed Managing Director in 1998, Michele has overseen the continued growth and evolution of OBMI’s Bermuda practice. In addition to her project work, she has remained actively engaged in the design community, serving as a past president of the Bermuda Society of Interior Designers and contributing to a number of professional and philanthropic organizations.

Outside of her professional work, Michele maintains a strong creative practice, with a particular interest in gardening and painting. These pursuits reflect a lifelong sensitivity to color, composition, and form, which continue to inform her approach to design.
