Thomas McCartney

As Managing Director of OBMI’s Trinidad and Tobago studio, he works closely with clients to guide projects through the complexities of architecture and development, helping transform ideas into thoughtful and enduring places.

With more than three decades of experience in the design industry, Tom has played a key role in shaping a wide range of projects across the Caribbean. His work spans mixed-use developments, retail centers, residential communities, and hospitality destinations. Known for his careful attention to detail and strong project leadership, he has helped guide projects from early concept through completion.

Tom was also instrumental in establishing the Caribbean’s first ISO-certified consultancy practice, helping introduce rigorous professional standards that continue to influence the region’s design and development industry.

Educated in the United Kingdom, Tom has built deep professional roots in the Caribbean. He is a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Institute of Architects and a registered architect with the Board of Architecture Trinidad and Tobago. He remains actively engaged with a range of industry, retail, and urban development organizations.

Outside the studio, Tom finds inspiration in classical music, travel, and the natural beauty of the places he visits. One of his most memorable destinations is Lourdes in France, a place he describes as feeling as though heaven has touched the earth.
