Le Royal Mansour
A regal masterpiece of craftmanship
When King Mohammed VI decided to commission a residence of hospitality that would house honoured guests and erudite travellers in Marrakech, it was clear that those asked to deliver on the dream would need to design something that was extraordinary and utterly unique. Our team recognised that the responsibility involved in awakening that dream was directly linked to our courteous stewardship of authentically bringing to life something that would honour, respect and highlight the rich culture and beauty of his Kingdom.

The design intention was realised in the creation of a seven-star storied place where the concept of luxury is redefined. The result is the ultimate immersion in Marrakech, where the guest is transported into a magical medina where they experience the refined grace of traditional and royal Moroccan hospitality. The Royal Mansour was designed specifically to be synonymous with its destination, capturing the soul, spirit and essence of Morocco.

Gaining a deep understanding of the heart of place and to inform our design work, we embarked on a journey of comprehensive research into art, culture and tradition. While this is not unusual for destination architecture, the uncompromised quality of our listening and observation allowed us to distil the essence of Marrakech into a distinct, handcrafted luxury experience, taking the notion of hotel to an entirely new level.

Eschewing the expected idea of traditional rooms or suites, the resulting 53 Riads are individual, graceful, opulent, and elegant. The idea of Medina anchored and stirred our creativity, however we stepped away from the frenetic sounds of the souk and into a place soothed with the gentle babble of fountains and shaded meandering pathways.

A flawlessly choreographed guest journey begins as you enter the spectacular portal of cedarwood and bronze, a first experience of the phenomenal artistry of the 2000 local artisans engaged and orchestrated by our team to highlight the intricate beauty of Moroccan skills past and present throughout. Our connection to and support of community was a perfect collaboration of collective expertise that realized a very literal interpretation of the soul of the country and its traditions. The Royal Mansour became something the artisans were proudly and intrinsically connected to and part of, then and now.

A layered and innovative approach to hospitality is a natural part of our design ethic and is highlighted in the purposefully designed network of underground tunnels. The idea was to speed seamless and unintrusive royal service to every guest guaranteeing privacy and discretion.
Glazed retractable roofs over the riad courtyards ensured that climatic expectations of modern living reside within, preserving the authentic exteriors. Everywhere there are unexpected layers of visual interest, and while it could have been ostentatious, it is instead a thoughtful, rich and cossetted experience providing dazzling memorable moments for guests that are ignited by exceptional design.
